Organic Weed Control

Many people believe that organic weed control is a nearly impossible task. However, many different techniques exist for organic weed control that will help you in your goal of having a beautiful organic yard—without having to use chemicals that could potentially harm our environment.

Organic weed control begins at the bottom up. So many people think that any weed control is just spraying weed killer over and over and over again until all the weeds are dead. If you want a weed-free lawn, be it organic or not, you need to have a good soil base, good root systems developed for your grass, and you need to take care of your lawn with proper water and fertilizer techniques. Organic weed control, like all weed control, works best when you prevent the weeds from developing root systems in your lawn.

Organic Fertilizers

Organic fertilizers are products where the nutrients are derived solely
from the remains or a by-product of an organism.  Many people claim that
organic lawn fertilizers are not as effective as man-made chemicals.
However, those people are typically looking only at short-term results and
ignoring the long-term benefits of organic lawn fertilizers and the
long-term problems caused by using chemicals on your lawn.

When you compare organic fertilizers to the synthetic chemical fertilizers
you find relatively lower concentrations of actual nutrients in the
organic lawn fertilizer.  This is why many people (generally those who
make a living from synthetic fertilizer) claim organic fertilizer is not
as effective.  It is true, depending on which fertilizers you compare,
that you may not find as much nitrogen, phosphorus, or potash (the three
major nutrients found in fertilizers) in organic fertilizers.  However,
just because you do not have as much nitrogen does not mean the fertilizer
